Date Change for NZ 2018 UCI CN Event

Date Change for NZ 2018 UCI CN Event

As of mid-last week the UCI confirmed a change of event date regarding the FIRST WINDOWS & DOORS BMXNZ Championship Nationals.

2018 FIRST WINDOWS & DOORS BMXNZ Championship Nationals (UCI CN) – 13th January 2018 Christchurch, NZ

This is due to a UCI Supercross round that has been set for the same weekend as our normal Easter Nationals which fell on the 31st March/lst April. As per UCI rules, no other UCI sanctioned event can be placed on the same date as a UCI Supercross event. Even though we allocate dates of the NZ Nationals two years in advance, this does not supersede the UCI rule.

The time line of the change was as follows:

  1. The Supercross event was advised to BMXNZ 14 September 2017
  2. Alternate dates were advised to the UCI 22 September 2017
  3. UCI confirm date live on calendar 4 October2017

During the process above BMXNZ has reviewed what was possible and how we could deliver the CN event with all the volunteers in one place & also with an income stream to balance the costs of the event.

So logically for the sport to be able to deliver the CN event, this would have to be at a BMXNZ major event. Souths is the only event within the time frame of 2018 that could work. The other event being Norths at Mountain Raiders, but event is outside the qualification time frame for the 2018 World Championships.

BMXNZ need to balance what is affordable & what is possible for a volunteer sport to deliver. So BMXNZ must use the volunteers & event structures already in place to deliver the CN event for championship riders.

Please note the BMXNZ National Championships for ALL challenge class riders will still be held as per the BMXNZ calendar at New Plymouth during Easter 31st March- 1st April 2018.
