The three New Zealand BMX riders all qualified strongly on the opening day of the penultimate UCI World Cup Supercross in Argentina today.
The in-form Trent Jones had two wins and a third placing in his three qualifying motos at Santiago del Estero.
He was joined by Taranaki’s Matt Cameron who came back strongly to win his final moto and secure his place in tomorrow’s elimination rounds.
Olympic medallist Sarah Walker also won her final moto to move through. She was caught in a crash in the opening heat to finish sixth but came back with a third and the win to move through impressively.
The qualified riders now compete in three further motos tomorrow, joined by the top eight ranked women and top 16 men on world rankings who were exempt from today’s racing.
Of the exempt riders Colombia’s Mariana Pajon took out the time trial honours ahead of Australian Caroline Buchannan while American Connor Fields was fastest in the men.
