Nationals Wrap – Central Region

What an awesome weekend! Christchurch turned on the weather and the Christchurch City BMX Club turned on an amazing event! The track was well prepared and by all accounts was very popular with the riders.

The Central Region crowd crossed the Strait with a good contingent of riders looking forward to a great Nationals competition with 9 trialling for the Mighty 11 Test Team and everyone keen to retain or improve their PBs. For many it was their first time racing at a Nationals event in the South Island. All clubs were represented not only with riders but also a solid group of volunteers.

An amazing display of racing was there to be seen and the new format worked well.

Central Region finished up with 61 top 8 riders, of this number 25 stood proudly on the podium with 7 NZ1’s. Jenna Hastings & Lachie Stevens-McNab raced their way into the Mightys team. Rotorua took home the Pocock Trophy. Central Regions 7 yr girls – you rock! Of the final 8, 5 were from our region! Wicked.

Congratulations to all riders. You provided a weekend full of exciting racing, thrills and spills and it was great to watch. Thank you to our volunteers, we all know without you the racing can not happen. A big thanks to the efforts of the Christchurch BMX Club for their planning, preparation and pulling off such an awesome event.

We look forward to the next major event in Central Region – North Island Titles at Taupo. Bring it on!
