This is my second season riding for the NZ Yess Factory team and what a character building season it has been…
It all began with very wet nationals in Tauranga, the track was slippery and the pressure was on to defend my National title. I worked hard on the straights and just tried to hold my line on the corners. I was so thrilled to come away unbeaten and be NZ1 for the second year!
After a short break I began to focus on the World Championships in Rotterdam, I trained really really hard with time on the track, at the gym, and indoors on the gate. The trip was amazing and we went as a whole family which was awesome. Unfortunately I crashed in practise which has never happened to me before but I still felt really confident in my ability to be competitive. In the final I got stuck on the first corner and couldn’t pedal until the second straight then I made up quite a bit of ground and was W3. I was so proud of myself. When I got back to NZ I was a bit over it and I wanted to give up BMX altogether…I think I just trained too hard. After a couple of weeks I thought I can’t stop doing BMX I love it too much. (My parents were pretty relieved)
After quite a long break I came 2nd at North Island Champs in Puni which was devastating. I was beaten by a better rider on the day… I have come first in every race since then in my age group and that weekend gave me the drive to train hard again but to re-think my training and train smarter.
Nationals in Christchurch were another testing time for me… I was aiming for three National titles in a row. My competitions have also stepped up quite a bit as there are more challengers in my age group now, which is good for BMX but more pressure for me! I had a really bad cold all week and was quite tired on my race day. I won all my motos and I knew in the final that I needed to go lane 1 and back my gate and first straight to get the holeshot…which I did!!
I am now a three time National Champion and two time National series winner, I am currently W3 and I am looking forward to taking on the world champion on her home track… Zolder Belgium in July for the BMX World Champs.
Thank you to all the people who support me… NZ Yess team, Fox family, Nzo Ride Central Rotorua, Hodgeman Web Design, Aaron at QE gym, Hayden Moore and Jaydah thanks for all those early morning rides and Mum Dad and Adam for your love and total support.
