Kapiti BMX had three new riders attending their first BMX national championships.
Attending the nationals in Tauranga over Easter weekend were Ella Giddens (8 girls), Toby Gambrill and Tom Coleman (both 6 boys).
The club was very proud of these riders who made a huge step up from club night racing and gave them the honour of carrying the club banner in the march during the opening ceremony.
Toby excelled by making his first final at national level.
Four of the club’s riders made finals: Tipene Kennedy gained NZ 3 in the highly-competitive 9 year boys, comprising 50 riders.
Liam Perry was competing for the first time at men’s junior elite level (the first male rider to do so in the Wellington region) to crash out in the final to be NZ8 with Kasey Thompson Delany and Toby Gambrill.
It was also the last round of the national points series with Tipene gaining number 1 spot, taking home the winner’s jersey and #1 plate.
