Walker leads quartet of BMX junior riders for world championships

Four riders have been selected for the New Zealand team to contest the junior category at the UCI BMX World Championships in Glasgow in August.

The 2023 junior women’s national champion, Leila Walker (Cambridge) heads the group along with Te Awamutu’s Brooke Penny to contest the junior women’s event. Walker, 18, won the Oceania Junior title recently and last year took out the U23 World Cup category in South America.

Oceania runner-up Jack Greenough (Cambridge) is joined by Rotorua’s William Skipper in the junior men’s competition.

The BMX Racing World Championships will be staged in Glasgow on 12-13 August, after the Challenge (age group) World Championships on 6-9 August, which is part of the UCI’s bold initiative to stage 13 different cycling world championships in Scotland over two weeks.

The elite and under-23 riders will be named in the coming weeks.
