New Zealand BMX stars set for Harbour 1000

World junior BMX champion, Maynard Peel, will be one of the stars on show in the North Harbour 1000 on March 26.

Peel, from the Sunset Coast BMX Club in Waiuku, won the world men’s junior title in Columbia last year and will come up against a strong field in Rosedale on Sunday.

North Harbour BMX club president Greg Pryce describes the annual event as “BMX at its best – fast, skilled racing showcasing top New Zealand talent”.

Pryce says the superclass field for the event is the strongest it has been in a number of years.

North Harbour’s number l rider and defending champion, Michael Bias, will also have to contend with fellow New Zealand team member Cole McCone from Te Awamutu in what will be a very competitive mens race.  Local rider Ashley Williams will lead a competitive Held in the woman’s superclass.

The winners of the superclass will take home a cut of the total prize pool of $1000.

The Albany Toyota North Har-bour 1000 will see approximately 200 BMX competitors ranging in age from 5 to over 50 from across New Zealand taking part.

Racing starts at 11:00am at North Harbour BMX Club, 159 Bush Rd. Rosedale.

Entry to the event is free for speciaiors.
