Being in the Mighty 11 Team is an experience like no other. It is the first opportunity in a rider’s career to ride in a team. Not just a team but the NZ team! I felt proud to wear the NZ jersey and have a Black #2 plate on my bike and I know that we made NZ proud winning the Trans-Tasman trophy.

Clive is an amazing coach and is great at remembering names (not) and making us do hot laps and Sharon was an awesome manager worrying about all the stuff that Clive didn’t have to worry about. We had to train at Puni in rain, hail and gale force cross winds but hey we are tough and didn’t complain (much).

On race day everyone was a combination of nervous and fired up. We had done all the training and we knew that we could do our best as a team. The racing was very fast and furious and there was plenty of drama on the track. We were ahead at the end of day one, but with the strong racing by the Australian’s, there wasn’t much in it. Sundays racing had better be good. And it was! In the final moto we managed to get a 1st, 2nd and 3rd to sum it up for the boys 111 points to 83.

During my time as a Mighty 11 we had lots of communication, a spelling lesson where we learnt there is no ‘I’ in TEAM, lots of hot laps and hard work and most importantly, lots of FUN!
